During two years we were working in
Venezuela: The Andes, The East, the Coastal Range and the Southeast. We were
able to get near 40 species.
In May 2007 we attended the
invitation of our good friend Luis Mazariegos, author of the book
Hummingbirds of Colombia and Director of The Hummingbird Conservancy. In
Cali, Colombia and the Western Andes branch we recorded 10 species in a
week.
In July 2007 we made finally our
first trip to Ecuador, shooting in Mindo Lindo (Heike Brieschke & Pedro
Peñafiel), Mindo (El Descanso), Guango Lodge y Cabañas San Isidro
(Carmen Bustamante). We got 27 species in 15 days.
September 2007, trip to the
Southeastern Venezuela, to Barquilla de Fresa. We got outstanding shots
of the Crison Topaz, remade in HD several species and got the NEW
endemic Velvet-browed Brilliant.
October
2007, trip to Southern Ecuador visiting the Jocotoco reserves of
Buenaventura, Jorupe, Utuana and tapichalaca, plus Copalinga in Zamora.
16 new species were recorded for a total of 80 to date. Among them the
spectacular RAINBOW STARFRONTLET.
January
2008, trip to Panama visiting Los Quetzales, Canopy Lodge, Canopy Tower
and Sierra Llorona Lodge. 16 Species were recorded, 11 new, althougth
the Snowcap was too far from our standards. Among them the outstanding
Fiery-throated Hummingbird, the Magnificent Hummingbird, the Violet
Sabrewing and the Violet-crowned Woodnymph.
March 2008: Northern and Eastern
Ecuador. Six new species: Shining Sunbeam, Great Sapphirewing,
White-tailed Hillstar, Sapphire-vented Puffleg, Golden-breasted Puffleg,
Gorgeted Sunangel. Aditionally great new shots of one third of the other
species.
